  • The serialisation of the short biographies of English actors entitled 'Lives of the Actors' is completed in this issue. This issue includes the biographies of the actors Charles Matthews, John Pritt Harley, Frederick Yates, W. J. Hammond, William Henry Oxberry (also a playwright), Thomas Potter Cooke, Madame Vestris (Eliza Lucy Bartolozzi), Mrs Honey (Laura Bell), Mrs Fitzwilliam, Mrs Stirling (Miss Fanny Clifton), and Ellen Daly. These biographies are not separately indexed in AustLit.

    'Lives of the Actors' also included a biography of the actor and playwright John Baldwin Buckstone. Buckstone was the author of several international plays produced in the colonial era. This biography has been separately indexed.

Sums Received in Aid of the Widow Montgomery, single work advertisement

List 'published for the information of all parties concerned' of monies received for the aid of the wife of the late John Montgomery. Some well known Sydney printers and newspaper men appear on this list.

Bent's News and New South Wales General Advertiser, single work advertisement

'The Austral-Asiatic Public are respectfully informed, that Bent's News, which has been published for the last three years in Van Diemen's Land, will, as a Hobart Town Journal, cease at the end of the present year [1838], with a view to its re-appearance at Sydney, New South Wales, in the month of February or March, 1939.'

Bent's News and New South Wales Advertiser began publishing in April 1839. It was sold in July 1839 to the editor of the newspaper, W. A. Duncan. Duncan changed the name of the newspaper to the Australasian Chronicle. Bent remained as the Australasian Chronicle's printer to 1840.

The advertisement is dated Hobart Town, Van Diemen's Land, 10 November 1838.

A short biography of the English actor and playwright John Baldwin Buckstone. This biography is part of 'Lives of the Actors' published in the Sydney Gazette and New South Wales Advertiser over two issues, 20 and 22 December 1838. Buckstone's biography is separately indexed in AustLit because he was also a playwright and his plays were produced in Australian theatres during the colonial era,
