AbstractHistoryArchive Description

Wendy Harmer's latest novel is targeted towards 'an audience which texts, uses Facebook and sends emails to friends' (20). Elly Pickering is a fifteen year old girl whose entire social life revolves around her mobile phone. As Purdie points out, the reader soon realizes that Elly is 'prone to dramatics' as the narrative deals with her position as a 'social outcast...uncontactable and isolated except for her Facebook bulletins' (20). According to Purdie it is an entertaining and witty read that also contains 'a serious message about the dangers of social networking sites and cyberbullying' (20).
