The author discusses the travel writing of Shinobu Ohe, a Japanese professor of sociology who has visited Australia several times, beginning in 1988. The focus of this article is Ohe's work Oosutoraria Koosatu Kikoo (Reflections on a Study Tour Around Australia).
The author discusses three works by Machiko Satoo, a Japanese woman who lived in Melbourne with her family for over twenty years. Satoo is married to Yoshio Sugimoto, professor of sociology at La Trobe University. Among Satoo's publications are Oosutoraria Kara no Tegami (Letters from Australia) published in Tokyo by Gakuyoo Shoboo, 1985.
