Meagher's first impressions of the 'stateliness and beauty of the scenery' of Van Diemen's Land

Notes

  • The Bathurst Free Press editor's note: (From the Launceston Examiner.) The subjoined extracts are from a letter addressed by this gentleman to Mr. Duffy, the editor of the Dublin Nation. It is dated 'Van Diemen's Land, Ross, District of Campbell Town. February 10, 1850,' and conveys Mr. O'Meagher's (sic) first impressions
  • The editor of the Bathurst Free Press attributes this extract to Mr. T. F. O'Meagher. As the author is writing home to Ireland and refers to his arrival in Hobart in October 1849 aboard the Swift, it is safe to assume that the surname is a misprint for Thomas Francis Meagher.
