AbstractHistoryArchive Description

Victoire de Lambilly, the Comtesse de la Villirouet, was imprisoned in 1793 by the French revolutionaries. She secured the release of seventy prisoners by petitioning Bollet, one of the leading revolutionary authorities. When her husband returned from exile he was arrested, but the Comtesse acted as his lawyer and secured his release, thus saving him from execution.
