Notes

  • Author's note: An interview with the author of those gems of the domestic genre, Songs from the Mangle and While the Bath Water Boils. (appears under title)
  • A parody providing pseudo-biographical details about a fictional poet, Hannah Allport. Written in the style of an interview which takes place at the home of Mrs Allport, the text includes 'extracts' of nonsensical poetry.
  • Variant spelling of character's name: 'Allport' appears consistently throughout body of story and has also been listed in title on contents page. However, 'Alport' appears in title/running title on pages 16 and 78.
