Notes

  • ' The Levy of Death is the title of a poem recently published by Mr. Samuel Gill Mee, and a copy of which has been forwarded to us. The object of the writer is to show the pernicious effects of intemperance upon a population. The subject is dealt with in a amusing and interesting way, and shows that the composer has devoted considerable care and attention to it.' - Brisbane Courier, 19 January, 1864, p.2.
  • This work was advertised for sale in the Brisbane Courier in January 1864, where it was referred to as 'an allegorical temperance poem'. Price one shilling. 'Sold by all booksellers.'
