Ann believes she will never marry because of her awkward shyness. Then an old school friend, Micky, comes back to their home town for a holiday and they fall in love. When he leaves he promises to write, but no letter arrives. It is months before Ann learns the reason for his silence.
When Martha and Sam Lester win money in a lottery they sell their farm and move to the city. Martha suspects Sam is infatuated with a young and beautiful girl, but Sam has a surprise in store for her that she never expected.
