The author writes of her experience of being Mexican in Australia. She writes: 'In Australia to be an ethnic minority is to be the other, the alien. Not all migrants are 'ethnic': the term is applied to those who are different compared to the cultural features of mainstream Australia, of Anglo- Australia.'
