AbstractHistoryArchive Description

During its brief 10 month history the Araleun Star and Miners' Right newspaper regularly published local and district news, mining news, reports from a Kiandra correspondent, original correpondence, extracts from overseas and colonial newspapers and, on rare occassions, some literary content.

In the final issue, published on 2 July 1864, the editor explained to readers that publication of the newspaper was no longer viable: 'Owing to the adverse circumstances of the valley it was our intention after this week [to discontinue] publication of the Star in its present shape. Depending as it has done, chiefly on Araluen for support, it has rather severely tasted the misfortunes of the time, and, in consequence it was contemplated to incorporate the Star with the Braidwood News'.
