AbstractHistoryArchive Description

Tells of the period Bully Hayes and his crew spent at Kusaie after the sinking of the Leonora. It was a time of debauchery, drunkennes and brutality, particularly towards the island's inhabitants, and led to Becke's removing himself to live alone on another island. Hayes was accompanied by Hope, a native boy whose father Hayes had killed, not realising the man was trying to warn him of a plot against him. Hayes 'adopted' the boy and treated him with a degree of kindness.
