  • Letter from Laughton to the editor of the People's Advocate and New South Wales Vindicator. Here Laughton seeks to correct supposed inaccuracies in the comments that had appeared with his poem 'The Albatross' in the issue of 24 February, which stated that he had at one point been sub-editor of the Sydney Record and that he had also conducted the Sentinel. Laughton states that in both instances he was never more than an occasional contributor.

    Notably, Laughton's letter sparked a response from the former proprietors of the Sentinel, who maintained that Laughton did in fact have editorial control of the newspaper for some two years prior to its demise (People's Advocate, 31 March, 1849, p.2 ), a point which Laughton again refuted in a second letter (People's Advocate, 7 April, 1849, p.3).
