  • The piece is accompanied by a short letter to the editor; 'Sir,-The enclosed sketch, written some three years back and transmitted to England with other papers of a similar nature, under the title of 'Rough Notes from Western Australia,' may serve, although originally intended solely for the perusal of my own family, to fill up a vacant corner of your paper during the present dearth of popular subjects.' The letter is signed 'Yorick', dated 'Perth, Dec. 28, 1846'.
