Notes

  • 'Billy Barlow' was a stock fictional comic figure across the English speaking world during the 19th century. In similar vein to the mid 19th century 'Billy Barlow' colonial songs, this poem traces the misfortunes of an overconfident bumbling new-chum Englishman in the Australian colonies.
