Notes

  • This poem appears as the conclusion to a letter by 'Shandy' titled 'To the Lord Bishop of Sydney'. The letter deals with questions of import to the Church of England in Sydney in 1848; namely, the issue of the offertory and the defection to the Church of Rome by some Sydney Anglican clergy.
