Notes

  • This story involves the murder of 'Mary', a young Aboriginal girl from the Port Stephens district, whom the author had tried to protect from 'Wicki', a renegade suitor.
  • First appeared in Tegg's Monthly Magazine in June 1836 with the author's name indicated by the Greek letter Theta. A hand-written note on the Mitchell Library copy of Tegg's Monthly Magazine attributes this work to 'Mr. W. Kerr', however further research is required to establish whether this is in fact correct.
