'It's natural for a young man applying for a job in the publishing industry to be pleased, although somewhat nervous, when he's called for an interview. Ralph thinks that he can handle it but he soon finds himself floundering under a barrage of unexpected questions.
'It seems that the people he meets might be expecting a considerable amount more from him than he was anticipating. For one thing, some of the questions are far more personal than usual and he is asked to explain his views on some social and ethical issues that seem totally irrelevant to the position. Of course, he wants to create a positive impression but he is soon wondering where to draw the line.
'This wonderfully funny and sympathetic account of Ralph's experience entertains from beginning to darkly surprising end.'
