Australian Claude Wingate escapes from prison. He has been wrongly jailed for murder and robbery after being involved in various scraps with his corrupt tutor. When Claude turns up at his father’s place, his father’s faithful corporal sends Claude to NZ to fight in the Maori Wars where he distinguishes himself. The family is reunited
