Robert Graeme marries and then takes a job as a ship's surgeon. He deserts his wife and comes to Australia and marries Eliza, the daughter of a wealthy landowner. Eliza, neglected in the loveless marriage, starts drinking and runs off with another man. After she is deserted, she commits suicide. Robert's first wife tracks him down, and they are reunited and remain in Australia.
