Author's note: This story is set on Croker Island, north of Western Arnhem Land in the Arafura Sea. This is the traditional land of four tribal groups including the Iwaidja people of this story.
During his time at the mission on Croker Island, Uncle Bob grew up with growing awareness of cultural traditions and ceremony through his close associations with Boonyi and Boonyi's extended family. As a mission kid, Uncle Bob was forbidden to speak his traditional language or take part in cultural ceremony. This was felt as a great loss as ceremony makes those who take part in it very strong. This story began as a dream about ceremony at the perfect time in Uncle Bob's life to help make him strong.
