Notes

  • Author's note: This story is set around Mindil Beach, near Darwin, once known as Palmerston, a number of years before the Darwin casino was built. The beach faces towards the setting sun in a bay ringed by bushland that has now become the Darwin Botanical Gardens. This beautful area is in Larrakia Country where these days the Darwin mob has their weekly markets in the dry season. This is a story Uncle Bob Randall used to tell his two sons as they fished at the mouth of the creeks around Palmerston. Carrying their spears they looked for Barramundi by torchlight.
