A tribute to Graves' hunting companion, John Peel.

Notes

  • Editor's note: '[Peel] tells us in his autobiography that he wrote the words to an old tune with which his children were lulled to sleep, in the company of John Peel in a parlor at Caldbeck in the Cumbrian Mountains. He immediately sang it to Peel "who smiled through a stream of tears, which fell down his manly cheeks; and I well remember saying to him in a joking style, "By Jove, Peel, you'll be sung when we're both run to earth".'
