Tramping poet seeking wire for an Anzac wreath brings together a boy called Ned who lost a father in WWI and a woman, who like the poet, has lost a son called Ned. The boy does not want to leave school for work, and when the poet tells his story the woman decides to subsidise his studies for her own son's sake.
