  • هذه القصائد حصاد عشرين عاماً بين "قطار الصدفة" و"شقائق النيسان". معظمها نشر خلال الحرب اللبنانية في حال من الهلع والتوتر ومن دون انضاج كافٍ. نقحتها وأعدت كتابة بعضها، سعياً الى غنائية جديدة.
    [These poems are the harvest of twenty years between 'The train of coincidence' and 'The anemones of April.' Mostly published during the Lebanese war in the state of panic and tension and without enough maturity. I revised it and rewrote some of it, to seek a new lyricism.]
  • An endorsement by Youssef El-Khal of Jad El-Hage's قصيدة 26 appears on the back cover of خمسة.
    ...قد يطاله بعض أبناء جيله، لكنّ أحدا منهم لا يقدر أن يتطاول عليه. فهو في هذه القصائد قامة مديدة تتفيّأ في ظلها حركة شعرنا الحديث .
    [Some people of his generation might reach him but none of them would be able to insult him. He has [achieved] in these poems an extended stature where our new movement of poetry finds shade.]
