Set in Wirramunga, this story tells of the adventures of the fine young horseman Nick Blackwood, his younger brother Ted and their cousin Solly Burtin, when they chase and capture a bandit who has shot and robbed a neighbour, Tod Breer. As a reward, Breer, who is recovering in hospital, buys Nick the young roan filly he desperately wants.
