    • 'A pencil note in the Mitchell Library copy identifies the author as J. L. Templar.' - Webby.
      Note, however, that other numbered poems in the sequence titled 'Songs of the Squatters' are by Robert Lowe and all of these titles, including No. 1, appear in Lowe's Poems of a Life.
