Report of the meeting of 18 June. Society President Booth reported that, after "strenuous and protracted efforts" the Australian Broadcasting Commission's Director of Talks had agreed to include three talks on Australian literature in his September programming.

Mr. A. Wolskel presented a review of Records of Pioneer Women of Victoria: 1835-1860 followed by A.A. Phillips on Shakespeare's use of poetic form.

Notes

  • Cottman "drew members' attention to the increasing recognition being given to Australian literature in all quarters" and suggested that meeting format be altered to include only one paper "to give time for the consideration and discussion of current affairs of importance to the welfare of our literature".
  • Announcement of the ALS Short Story Competition. Stories were to "portray some phase of Australian life and character" and be accompanied by two shillings.
