'This essay was written in 1996 for a competition run by the Society of Women Writers, New South Wales. It was published in a collection of women's writings (No Thanks, or Regrets, State Library of New South Wales, 1996). It forms a sort of sequel to my autobiography, Katherine's Diary, Heinemann, 1992). This shortened form may tell you a little more about your Polare editor.' -- the Author
