Notes

  • Epigraph: It has always been a source of regret to me ('Boondi') to note how little has been done by Australian writers, both of poetry and of prose, to preserve in deathless lines the life and customs, the deeds and thoughts of the once mighty lords of the Australian soil. Many men of letters have attempted the task, but in my opinion all have failed woefully, chiefly because they either did not know enough of the manners and customs of the ebon race, or else they lacked the ability to do justice to their sublime theme.
