Written about the Chasers chef/boatman, Joe Wangenheim, and the 'Playgoers Hostelry,' which he frequented most evenings. Wangenheim apparently had a reputation for generosity and good times, and the poem takes a light-hearted look at some of the people who would poke their head inside the hotel bar to see if Joe was in. Vaude also mentions other variety performers and Chasers members, Jack 'Porky' Kearns, Lazern, Paddy Mitchell, Ernie Law, Bill Kelso, Bill Shaw, Les Harford, Harry Hall and Billy Ryan.
