Note: This poem was published by The Sun (Kalgoorlie) on 30 October 1910, stating that the author was Neil or Neal. Subsequently, A. G. Stephens, q.v., wrote to the newspaper pointing out that its creator was in fact John Neilson, q.v., and that the poem had been awarded first prize at Melbourne's A.N.A. Fete in 1893 for a work on the subject, 'The Pioneers.' Stephens also stated that John Neilson had subsequently revised the piece and the lines as printed by the Kalgoorlie newspaper on 30 October 1910 had contained several errors. Stephens said he was sending the revised poem with John Neilson's permission, and the newspaper printed this amended version on 4 December 1910.
