Banafsheh was only eight years old when the revolution erupted in her country, Iran. At first her family was filled with hope as the Shah's rule collapsed and the Ayatollah Khomeini made his triumphant return. But they quickly came to realise that Iran had traded one dictator for another, more ruthless ruler.
Banafsheh's parents, Kamal and NIna, struggled with the Ayatollah's harsh new laws as life in Tehran began to spin out of control. They came to fear for the safety of their children and themselves, until finally they made the toughest of all decisions - to flee their beloved country, leaving the rest of their family and friends behind.
