Notes

  • Author's note: 'I travelled to China in 2006 in my first year f marriage to my second wife, Jeanette, mainly to get to know our new granddaughter, Sophie, born to my step-daughter Tania 17 September 2006. We gained teaching positions at Shanxi Normal University in Linfen, 'the filthiest city in the world' (World Bank report, 2006). Tania and her husband Jeff were running a collaborative learning stream in various education centres in Shanxi Province, including poverty-ridden village schools. There are nearly 160,000 words in my unedited China diary. I have just stated editing it. Here I offer the first instalment.'
  • Includes three poems written by the Author. Each poem has been indexed separately.
