The story of a young Aboriginal boy, Mickey, who was found as an abandoned baby by a station owner and his daughter. Mickey became part of the household, and grew into a cheery little boy skilled in horsemanship. He excitedly joined in his first muster when he was only six. However, sheltering in a hollow log when a storm broke, Mickey was repeatedly struck by a snake that was also sheltering in the log. His death was keenly felt by the author.
