Notes

  • Influenced by the Faustian legend as explored by dramatist Christopher Marlowe and writers Johann Goethe and Thomas Mann. Nineteenth-century composers Hector Berlioz and Charles Gounod each wrote an opera on the legend of Faust, while Franz Liszt was inspired to write a symphony.

  • 1919: Empire Theatre, Brisbane, 19-25 July. Director Hugh Huxham ; Producer Fullers' Theatres Ltd ; Troupe Hugh Huxham's Serenaders.

    Cast incl. Hugh Huxham, Edith Huxham, Reg Harrison, Sydney Hollister, Reg Harrison, Fred Heraud, Miss Pop Batterbury, Dan Weldon, Olive Sneddon, Kitty Morton, Pearlie McKenzie.

    • Huxham's Serenaders had ended their engagement with John N. McCallum (q.v.) on 9 June (after almost forty weeks), and transferred across to the Fullers' Empire Theatre later in the month.
