Notes

  • Author's note: For tens of thousands of years the Aboriginal people lived in scattered groups right across Australia. Some of their legends belong only to one place, often dealing with a matter of particular local interest. But there were some questions which all the groups asked about the world they saw around them, and as a result there are many similar legends explaining, for example, how the sun came to be in the sky, appearing each morning and giving warmth. Here is one of them. from the area now known as central Victoria.
