Satire set in Winding River (Brisbane), the capital of Banana-land (Queensland) whose Premier persecutes the Bookseller for selling "pornography".

Notes

  • 'The characters are fictious (Ho Hum)', and that it is 'presented by Bill Sutton in the absence of the Good-looking Bookseller as commissioned by the Communist Art Group, Australia', and also asks for donations to the Communist Party of Australia. (Source: Introduction to manuscript).
  • His 1972 prosecution for selling Phillip Roth's banned book Portnoy's Complaint was the basis for his 1973 short story The Good Looking Bookseller and the Ugly Society.
