Notes

  • Dedication: From earliest youth in writing verse I found a fascination; In leisure hours it still remains A favorite recreation. Now from these efforts I have made At random a collection And in this booklet will be found Of rhymes a small collection. Dear Readers of the "Budget", pray Accept this dedication; I shall not deem that labour lost Which wins your approbation. Sydney, March 1917.
  • Epigraph: Oh! many a shaft at random sent Finds aim the archer never meant; And many a word at random spoken May soothe or wound a heart that's broken. - Scott.
