  • Author's note: Supposed to have been written in May, 1738, by Mister John Morton, upon the fly-leaf of his autobiography, compiled at Clapham, in the County of Surrey, England.
  • The poem is followed by the autobiography of John Morton, and information about his death and genealogy (2-20).
  • The poem is attributed to 'Johannes Morton, loquitur'.
