Set in training camp near Melbourne in September 1914, the sketch begins with a squad of six diggers standing at ease on the parade ground. One of the soldiers gets money from a padre by telling a pathetic story, 'The Great Australian Bight.' The narrative also involves a general and a sergeant major who abuse the new recruits.
No production details have yet been located. The Pat Hanna Collection manuscripts indicate, however, that Bert Reid's contact address was 'Care of the Famous Diggers at St Kilda'. The troupe is known to have played at least three seasons at St Kilda between October 1920 and March 1923.
