'Established in 1875, the Naracoorte Herald has a long history of servicing Naracoorte and surrounding towns, including Lucindale, Penola, Padthaway and Frances among others.
Harry and Margaret Peake bought the paper in 1958 and their son Richard Peake and his wife Judith Barton took control in 1979.
The Herald has operated continuously apart from a short period at the turn of the 20th century when the owners of the time were successfully sued for libel and were put out of business.
In October 2010, the Herald moved from being a family-owned operation to joining a national network when the masthead was bought by Fairfax Media.

Hilton Fernbrook, part-Maori and orphaned heir of Colonel Fernbrook returns from five years abroad to his ancestral home and wealth. His fiancee Lady Blanche Trevor feels he has changed as do the old Maori servants who raised him but his rich hospitality convinces NZ society. He is, in reality, an expert mesmerist and an escaped convict who uses music and the power of his will to overcome the mind of his beautiful Maori ward Te Coro and use her as his visionary oracle. Other characters include the poor but latterly successful writer Alton Lyndhurst; Ralph Warne the banker's son who promoted Alton's work; Blanche's father, a respectable MP.
A melodramatic adventure story, set in New Zealand. It focuses on Sydney Black, a down-on-his-luck card-sharper and sometime gold miner, who has fallen in with old company, including Paul Barjew, an outlaw who wishes to marry Black's daughter Nita.
