Described in the author's note (both versions) as being in two parts. In the [194-?] version the end of Part I is dated: 'Written from June, 1941, to December, 1941'; in the [1988?] version: 'Dec. 17th 1941'. In the [194-?] version the end of Part 2 is dated: 'January, 1942, to January, 1943'; in the [1988?] version: 'Written January 1943'. The dates are inserted in the text. The poem is not divided into two distinct parts and reads continuously.

The title The Second Australian Independent Company appears over the author's note (p.3 in [194-?] version and p.5 in [1988?] version) and is the title of the second version.
