Notes

  • The origin of this series was a BBC children's radio series lasting from 1947 to 1953. The profusely illustrated (b&w and coloured) books consisted of short adventure stories, quizzes, and activities. There was also a 'Fortyniner's Club' for listeners to join. The stories also proved very popular as a cartoon, appearing in the Eagle between 1950 and 1957, and two films based on the series were released in 1949 and 1951 .
