Notes

  • Editor's note: The interest in Australian literature has greatly increased. Now is the time to develop this interest and encourage the real pleasure of not only creating, but also appreciating. There must be a corresponding increase in the country's literary output in order that the public may enjoy reading matter of a high standard, beyond the flood of cheap sentimental fiction.

At present there are young men and women writing well, but in vain. The purpose of this publication, is therefore twofold-to give new writers seeking recognition a chance to express themselves, and to stimulate interest in Australian literature of all kinds. It is not restricted or dominated by any sectional interest, class or party faction. All work has been published on its literary merits only, although no claim is made that genuis has been discovered. In the all-sided growth of a literature that is not limited to particular schools or movements, the young people have something very vital to offer. These short stories and poems will prove it.

Further contributions of short stoires and poems are invited for future publications. Payment will be made for all material accepted. If return of mss. is desired they must be accompanied by a stamped addressed envelope. -J.M.S. (p.[1])
