Notes

  • Jarvis's poem appeared with the article 'Mottoes in Verse', a brief background item on the author, who had just produced a framed series of his verses for sale to the public. All the verses had previously appeared in The News. The article notes that Jarvis frequently contributed verse to The News, The Bulletin and The Sydney Morning Herald, and that some years previously, a number of his verses had also been published in Nash's Magazine. The article includes a second poem 'Our Children', and also a small portrait of the author.
