AbstractHistoryArchive Description

Notes

  • The origin of the Chasers dates back to 1913, when Australian Variety was first published by Martin Brennan. One day each week a group of up to around two dozen men would head out on Sydney harbour on a yacht owned by the group's organiser and cook, Joe Wangenheim, to fish and have a barbeque. While high profile variety performers from overseas would occasionally be invited to go out on trips when in Sydney, the make-up of each gathering usually comprised local practitioners.
