Notes

  • This essay relies almost entirely on secondary sources and memoir, notably Fred Parson's problematic biography on Rene, A Man Called Mo (q.v.). There are subsequently numerous errors and unsuabstantiated assumptions, especially relating to Rene's Stiffy and Mo career. Leahy's essay and other examples of erroneous historical construction are critiqued in Clay Djubal's "What Oh Tonight : The Methodology Factor and Pre-1930s Variety Theatre"(q.v.) Chapter 1, pp47-49.
