Banned in Australia

Censorship Agencies: Literature Censorship Board
Decision: 8 Oct 1959
NAA Source: C4226; 'Quiet Days in Clichy' folder. C4129/1; Box Q-R
Censorship notes: One censor noted that in spite of the undeniable merits of Henry Miller as an author,'I cannot help feeling that the vulgarity of the situations and of the language passes all attempts of decency, especially as in this case all attempts at artistic creation seem to have been sacrificed to pornographic aims. I think that the book should be banned.'
Censorship notes: The prohibition was maintained at a 1963 review.
Censorship notes: The book was released on 27.08.1973.
