Set in a government unemployment-compensation office, Compo explores the conflict between optimism and ideology as it rubs up against the cold harsh reality of everyday life. Paul Harper is a university graduate with all sorts of wonderful notions as to how to better the lot of his fellow men. When he takes a public service position and dispenses 'compo' to the laid-off and the fired, he begins to take issue with the bureaucracy and poor management attending his job. Before long, his idealism has been hammered into plodding conformity ... or has it?
The screenplay is based on a 1987 play of the same name by Abe Pogos. No production details of the play have yet been located, however.
