Notes

  • Author's note: 'Patriotism and loyalty are agreed that the noblest task a poet can engage in is the immortalisation in verse of his country's history... I can only hope that, in thus making Australia the first country which has ever possessed a complete poem-history, I have presented to her and to her literature a gift worthy of acceptance.'
  • Includes a note explaining why the author believes that 'our Aboriginals are descendants of Egyptian navigators who came to this vast island in some such way as I have imagined in Book I.'
